Here’s a scoop from the dressing room. Indian cricketer Ashoke Dinda is getting married to his heartthrob of four years, Sreyasi Rudra. The couple, who met at a common friend’s shaadi, are now going to see their own wedding bells ring on July 22 at the girl’s residence in Chinsurah, West Bengal. The reception will be held in Kolkata at a city club on July 24.

Ashoke Dinda remembers that the first time he met the software engineer, sparks did not fly. “We met again after a few years at a party and I liked her, but we did not exchange numbers. After our third meeting, I took her number from a friend and we kept in touch. She is the most sober girl I’ve ever met. I made her meet my mom one and half years ago. I gave her hints about my feelings then, but she brushed me off. I kept pursuing her till she gave in,” said Indian Cricketer Ashoke Dinda.

The decision to tie the knot was taken during this year’s IPL. A July date was fixed since that’s a lean season for cricket. “Later, I would get busy with matches, so this was the best time,” said Ashoke Dinda. Diving on the cricket field might be second nature for him, but Ashoke Dinda did not go down on his knees for his lady love. “He is a very unromantic person. But good he did not do all of that. I find it very filmi,” said Sreyasi Rudra.

Is Sreyasi Rudra interested in cricket? “Very! In fact, I have a ‘class’ after every match when she asks me why I couldn’t take this wicket or that; ‘you should have bowled this way and why did you give so many runs’!” laughs Ashoke Dinda. Sreyasi Rudra confirms that she comes from a family of cricket enthusiasts. “So I had no option but to love cricket. Even my 86-year-old grandmother is mad about cricket.”

Sreyasi Rudra is also a big Shah Rukh Khan fan. “If I say something bad about Shah Rukh, I’m in the wrong. He can never be wrong,” exclaims Ashoke Dinda, who played for Team Kolkata in the first three IPLs. Now he’s with Team Pune. “I wish he returns to Team Kolkata. That way I will get to meet SRK again. In fact, I befriended him so that I could meet King Khan,” said Sreyasi Rudra, jokingly.

Was there any resistance from her family? “Initially, there were some problems since he was a cricketer. But once my family met him, everything fell into place.”

Her feelings as her special day approaches? “Oh, it’s much the same. Since we took the decision to get married during the IPL, a lot of preparations are pending,” said the bride-to-be, who will wear a red Benarasi for her wedding and a designer lehnga-choli for her reception. Sreyasi Rudra, who is on a break at present, wants to work in the long run. For now, she would like to tour with Ashoke Dinda on his trips.

What is strange is that the couple doesn’t have any photographs together. “I keep clicking her all the time. And since we met clandestinely, there was nobody to click us together,” chuckled Ashoke Dinda, who remembers waiting for hours outside her office at Salt Lake to meet her.
